W A R S A W, P O L A N D

Warsaw is the capital of Poland and the largest city situated in the eastern-central Poland. I have been there only twice so I am not the expert on Warsaw, but I know people who love Warsaw and definitely it is worth visiting.

The first time I went to Warsaw was in 2005 when I went to Sting's concert, but at that time I did not visit anything else in the city apart from the Horse Racing Grounds in Sluzewiec where the concert took place.

The second time I went to the capital was to watch the European Figure Skating Championships. It was during winter and it was so freezing cold that honestly it was not the best weather to go sightseeing. I remember my visit to the Old Market Square when it was snowing heavily so no surprise that the place was deserted.

THE OLD TOWN MARKET
First of all you should visit the Old Town Market with elegant tenement buildings and the sculpture of the Warsaw Mermaid in the Old Town Market Square.

Close to the Old Town Market Square you can visit the Royal Castle and the Zygmunt's Column.

THE LAZIENKI PARK

The Lazienki Park is another place worth visiting. You can admire there a beautiful Palace on the Water and the Chopin Monument. My photos were taken in the winter when the Lazienki Park looked gorgeous, but I think that it looks even better in the spring or in the autumn. It's your turn to find out if it's true.

The Chopin Monument
Warsaw was completely destroyed during World War II so in some ways it can be said that it is a new city now. If you look at the Warsaw skyline with skyscrapers you will see that the city is changing all the time and has got a modern and contemporary architecture. I would recommend visiting The Warsaw Uprising Museum to know more about Warsaw history and Warsaw Uprising in 1944. Who knows how Warsaw would look nowadays if Nazis hadn't destroyed the city. My hometown was also destroyed by Nazis in 97% so I have a lot of respect and admiration for all those people from my hometown, Warsaw and other places in Poland who came back to their cities and towns after the war, had absolutely nothing and did not give up, but instead found strength in themselves and rebuilt them. That is just amazing!

THE PALACE OF CULTURE AND SCIENCE The Palace of Culture and Science, which is the tallest building in Poland, is a gift from the Soviet Union to Polish people. The famous landmark was a controversial building and a lot of people hated it as they considered it to be the symbol of Soviet domination. There is an observation deck on the 30th floor of the building from which you can admire the panorama of Warsaw.
